About

Wild Iris is the creative work of Shona Stacey. I am an artist originally from the Burin Peninsula. I am inspired by every corner of this province and I am so thankful to call this island my home. The salty air fills my body with creativity; the strong winds make me feel alive; and the colors around me paint my eyes with stories to be told.

I have been watching my family make folk art from an early age, though I don't think they would have considered it such. Rug hooking was done to keep their floors warm from the drafty houses. Quilts were made with scraps of fabric, resulting in the most beautifully colored beds, filled with handfuls of children! Wood was carved and turned to make organic kitchenware, on which they ate their garden fresh food. It was a different time years ago, but I believe we can learn so much about happiness and the art of living a simpler life from days gone by.
