About

Wild Iris is the creative work of Shona Stacey. I am an artist and educator from Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. I am inspired by every corner of this province and I am so thankful to call this island my home. The salty air fills my body with creativity; the strong winds make me feel alive; and the colors around me paint my eyes with stories to be told. I have a deep love for working with wool and other sustainable fibers. I am passionate about the practice and preservation of heritage art and craft in my province and I strive to honour and connect with my ancestors through my traditional practices.

I have been watching my family make folk art from an early age, though I don't think they would have considered it such. Rug hooking was done to keep the floors warm in the drafty houses. Quilts were made with scraps of fabric, resulting in the most beautifully colored beds, filled with handfuls of children! Wood was carved and turned to make organic kitchenware, on which garden fresh food was eaten. It was a different time years ago, but I believe we can learn so much about happiness and the art of living from those who came before us..
